Windermere
A larger town than its lakeside neighbor Bowness, sitting half a mile up the hill from the lake itself. Windermere is the rail terminus for Lake District services, making it the typical arrival point for many visitors. The town has Victorian-era hotels, traditional pubs, and shops. Notable nearby attractions include Orrest Head — a short walk from the station with one of the finest panoramas of the Lake District — and the Lakeland Motor Museum. Windermere joins Bowness via a steady downhill walk of about 15 minutes, and the two are often considered a single destination.
