Bowness
Bowness-on-Windermere, a charming, busy visitor hub on Lake Windermere, popular as a starting point for boat trips, lake cruises and walks. The waterfront has a steamer pier, swan-feeding promenade, ice cream stands and the World of Beatrix Potter attraction. The pretty old village center sits slightly uphill, with stone buildings, the church of St Martin and traditional pubs. Bowness joins seamlessly with the larger town of Windermere just up the hill, which combined, have a large collection of hotels to choose from. Lake cruises connect Bowness to Ambleside and Lakeside, and steam train rides start at the Lakeside terminal.
