Warwick

A historic county town in the Midlands, famous primarily for Warwick Castle, one of the finest medieval castles in England, originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068 and substantially developed in the 14th century. Now a major visitor attraction with state rooms, dungeons, and reenactments. The town center has medieval and Tudor buildings, the Lord Leycester Hospital (a 14th-century complex of half-timbered buildings still operating as a retirement home for ex-servicemen), and the Collegiate Church of St Mary with its outstanding Beauchamp Chapel. Warwick makes a good base for visiting nearby Stratford-upon-Avon and Coventry.
