Windsor
A historic town just west of London, dominated by Windsor Castle — the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, founded by William the Conqueror around 1070 and an official residence of the British monarch ever since. The State Apartments, St George's Chapel (burial place of ten monarchs including Henry VIII and Charles I), and the changing of the guard are major attractions. Across the Thames lies Eton, home to the famous public school. The town center has Georgian shops, the Long Walk leading to Windsor Great Park, and easy access to Legoland Windsor for families. About 25 minutes by train from London Paddington.
