Bakewell

A market town on the River Wye in the Peak District National Park, often called the prettiest town in the Peak. Famous for the Bakewell Pudding (and its modern variant the Bakewell Tart) — local bakeries make these daily and offer them for tasting. The Monday market dates from 1254 and remains one of England's traditional country markets. Notable attractions include the medieval Old House Museum, All Saints Church with its Saxon cross, and the bridge across the Wye. Bakewell is a popular base for visiting Chatsworth House (about 3 miles away) and Haddon Hall (just south of town).
