Wengen
Wengen is a car-free mountain village on a sunny terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, reached by rack railway from Lauterbrunnen. With sweeping views of the Jungfrau massif and easy access to the Jungfraujoch railway, it is one of the most popular bases for exploring the Bernese Oberland. The village has a relaxed, traditional atmosphere with wooden hotels and chalets, and the surrounding network of hiking trails offers walks suitable for all abilities — from gentle strolls through Alpine meadows to more demanding routes with dramatic glacier and peak views. Wengen is also famous as the venue for the annual Lauberhorn downhill ski race, one of the longest and most prestigious on the World Cup circuit.
