Grindelwald

Grindelwald is one of Switzerland's most famous mountain villages, dramatically set in a valley beneath the north face of the Eiger and surrounded by the great peaks of the Bernese Oberland. It serves as the main base for excursions to the Jungfrau region, including the rack railway journey up to the Jungfraujoch — Europe's highest railway station — and access to extensive hiking trails ranging from gentle valley walks to challenging Alpine routes. The village itself has a pleasant main street of hotels, restaurants and mountain sport shops, and the surrounding landscape of glaciers, waterfalls and emerald meadows is spectacular in every season. The First gondola lift opens up a high plateau with views across to the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Fiescherhorn.
