Gimmelwald
Gimmelwald is a tiny car-free farming hamlet clinging to a cliff above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, accessible only by cable car from Stechelberg. With just 130 residents and a handful of chalets, it is one of the most authentically unspoiled Alpine villages in Switzerland, offering spectacular views across the valley to the waterfalls and snow-covered peaks beyond. Many hikers use Gimmelwald as a starting or stopping point on the route between Mürren and the Schilthorn cable car, enjoying the easy walking trails through meadows filled with wildflowers in summer. The village has a wonderfully quiet, timeless atmosphere far removed from the busy tourist resorts nearby.
