Historic Center: The city of York is England's finest example of a medieval town -- so well-preserved that it looks like you took a wrong turn somewhere back in 1335 and got stuck in time. When you walk down these narrow lanes lined with the ancient original buildings it's like walking through an outdoor museum but it's very much lively and functioning city.
